THE LOOK OF METAL WITH THE DURABILITY AND LOW PRICE OF PORCELAIN
The Meridian Tile Group uses a speciallized digital ceramic printer which is
sold exclusively through DCT Printers.
This printer uses ceramic mineral toners to print onto decal paper. The decal
paper allows us to transfer the print onto the plaque.
Once we have printed the decal, we apply a coating of covercoat and flux
(which is essentially pulverized glass in a liquid base). The flux melts during
the firing process and leaves a thin coating over the image giving it additional
protection from the elements.
Next we apply the decals to the porcelain blank. After soaking them in water
for a few minutes, the image slides right off of the paper and onto the tile. The
image is rolled down onto the tile and the excess water is squeeged off. The
plaques are then loaded into our specially built racks and put into the kiln
where they are fired to 1540 degrees. This melts the flux and toners and
permanently bonds them to the plaque. After firing each one is quality
checked. They are then carefully packed and shipped to our customers for a
lifetime of enjoyment.
Below is a video which can further illustrate the technique used by the
professionals at Meridian Tile and DCT Printers.
